Frequently asked questions
Call our main number (914) 382-8765 with any further questions you might have.
Do I need to reclaim refrigerant before I scrap my refrigerator?
Yes. Whether it's a domestic or commercial system, the refrigerant inside the system must be removed safely by a licensed technician before disposal according to Federal EPA Standards. It's against the law to vent the system refrigerant to the atmosphere. Supercool Co RHVAC can reclaim your system refrigerant and give you a certification sticker for garbage pickup.
What should I do if my system fails?
Normally, the best course of action is to turn off all power to the system and call a qualified technician immediately. If the system is leaking, it's best to ventilate the area with fresh air.
What do I do if my system leaks freon?
Freon is another word for refrigerant. Some refrigerants today, are actually flammable. Check the labeling on your unit and ventilate the area regardless, as refrigerant gas can cause hypoxia and other symptoms.
How long does it take to fix my system?
That depends on the details of the diagnosis. Supercool Co RHVAC will provide a reliable diagnosis and a reasonably accurate ETA for parts and service every time!
Can expensive refrigerant be replaced with a cheaper one?
Yes. While some refrigerants are "phased out" by the EPA, others are introduced as replacements. Usually, the new refrigerant can only be added after certain mechanical changes are made to the system. We call this job a "retro-fit".
Are refrigerants dangerous?
Yes. Some refrigerants, when they come in contact with open flame, will produce poisonous gas called "phosgene gas". Other refrigerants can actually ignite. All refrigerants can cause Hypoxia. In 2020, the EPA approved broad use of R32, R290 and other flammable refrigerants. These gases are extremely dangerous if exposed to open flame!
